I just completed hosting the first of many Sankalpa Yoga Retreats at Jacklyn and Elijah’s Puna Rainforest Retreat, and am already trying to figure out how to host another one we were so pleased with our experience. I have worked and stayed at many properties in Hawaii and I was thrilled with this location. The isolation meant that the only sounds we heard were the ones we made and the birds and frogs around us. We loved the screened-in yoga room for an open air practice with beautiful views of the orchard and passing clouds and rain. Our retreat guests went on a fasting, silent, solo day. They were in awe of the trail loop on the property and the ability to instantly be in nature a few steps out the door. We loved the kitchen facilities and the communal element of the pool and back lanai, as well as the privacy that the cottages provided. Jaclyn and Elijah are attentive and kind and did an excellent job of supporting our needs. Also, Oscar is the greatest cat in the whole world. He took many of our guests on full walks down the hiking trail, a little spirit guide. 5 stars!
We just hosted a science conference at the Puna Rainforest Retreat that included 20 international researchers, and it was truly perfect. The retreat had plenty of space for all of us, and for a couple individuals that decided to join last minute. The property, main house, and cottages are so beautiful. We never wanted to leave! Jacklynn and Elijah were extremely pleasant to deal with, especially considering that we had a multitude of questions before we arrived. They were always incredibly responsive and helpful. If we had any questions during our way there, Jacklynn was always just a phone call away. Jenny and Bev, who clean the house and live next door, were also so lovely. They made sure that everything was absolutely perfect before we arrived. Bev even made an insect out of biscotti on the counter in the main house (we’re entomologists). Oscar the cat was also a great addition and everyone at the conference loved him! We had a private cook for the conference and the kitchen was plenty big to accommodate all 20+ people. One night, we made lau lau and it was so special to be able to walk outside and use banana leaves right on the property to use for our dish! We ate each meal in the screened lower lanai. There were several extra fold-out tables and chairs for everyone. We even used a space on the lanai to set up a couple microscope stations. For our presentations, we set up a projector in the living room of the main house and it was all perfect. All of the participants remarked at how laid-back yet professional the conference was. I would highly recommend any of the cottages or the main house to anyone, especially those that are planning a workshop or conference. The cave and private nature trail were also amazing to explore in our free time. We couldn’t have picked a better place for our conference. Jacklynn and Elijah allowed us to make the retreat our home for a week, and we couldn’t have felt more comfortable. Thanks so much to them for everything.
When I talked to my significant other about a wedding Hawaii quickly become the only place in consideration. We really were hoping to find a special place where we could have friends and family stay with us and have time enjoying each others company in a beautiful setting, avoiding those stressful and awkward moments where our friends and family are really co-mingling for the first time. The Puna Rainforest Estate was utterly perfect, and Jacklynn was the absolute best host we could have imagined. This place is as close to perfect as I could have asked for and my new wife and I swore we’d have to come back. I didn’t think it would be possible for the hospitality trump the beauty of the location but it did. Jacklynn stayed in regular contact with us, answered all questions with a wonderful turn around time, let us have items shipped to the estate, and all in all made the event and our stay as stress free as possible. Our guests raved about the location, the trail, the decor, the appliances, pretty much everything. I cannot recommend Puna Rainforest Estate, or Jacklynn and Elijah enough. Whether it is a cottage for 1 or large group of 16, I don’t think there is a better place on the Big Island that you could stay at.
I cannot recommend this location enough! Once we caught our breath from this beautiful setting we all felt right at home. The house is left unlocked for you, sliding doors and windows are left open (all screened) so the house is light and airy upon arrival. It was immaculately kept which made obvious the adoration the owner’s have for their private piece of paradise. With such love and care, and the gate out front, I immediately felt safe and welcomed. The little nearby town of Pahoa does not lack character and the location of the Rainforest Yellow Hibiscus is a perfect combination of secluded paradise and convenience. The owner provides a binder which includes their favorite nearby locations, things to do and even has nearby restaurant menus. We appreciated the additional compliments like shampoo/conditioner, coffee and bug spray. The owner’s are obviously very thoughtful and we are grateful to them for sharing their treasure with us. Mahalo!
